DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NUMBER​

You are required to obtain a USDOT number if you have a vehicle that:
​

Is used to transport the types and quantities of hazardous materials requiring a safety permit in intrastate commerce (see 49 CFR 385.403).
OR
​
-
Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater; or
-
Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or
-
Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation

In general, companies that do the following are required to have interstate operating authority (MC number) in addition to a DOT number:

Operating as for-hire carriers (for a fee or other compensation)

Transporting federally regulated commodities or arranging for their transport, in interstate commerce​

Required for all INTERstate commerce across state lines.

TEXAS MOTOR CARRIER
OPERATING AUTHORITY NUMBER

Issued by Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TXDMV)
Motor carriers operating INTRAstate commercial motor vehicles on a road or highway in Texas must register their operations with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Motor Carrier Division. For INTRAstate operations please ensure you register with USDOT as INTRAstate not INTERstate.
You must register as a motor carrier when you:

Operate a commercial motor vehicle (or a combination of vehicles) with a gross weight, registered weight or gross-weight rating exceeding 26,000 pounds

Transport hazardous materials in a quantity that requires placarding

Operate a farm vehicle with a gross weight, registered weight or gross weight rating of 48,000 pounds or more
-
Operate a vehicle designed to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver
-
Operate a commercial school bus
-
Transport household goods for compensation, regardless of vehicle weight

TEXAS AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION
CONTRACTORS LICENSE

Issued by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
A person may not engage in air conditioning and refrigeration contracting unless the person holds an air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license
​
License Classes
-
The Class A license allows you to work on any size unit.
-
The Class B license allows you to work on cooling systems of 25 tons and under, and heating systems of 1.5 million BTUs/hour and under.

TEXAS ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR LICENSE

Issued by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
A licensed contractor (i.e. electrical, sign, residential appliance installation) must display its name and license number on both sides of each vehicle owned or operated by the business, and used in the conduct of electrical work.
Lettering must be of a contrasting color, and at least two inches in height. The lettering must be permanently affixed in conspicuous places on both sides of the vehicle.

The license number for an Electrical Contractor must be preceded by the letters “TECL”:
Example: for an Electrical Contractor license number "1234" the sign would read "TECL 1234." -
The license number for an Electrical Sign Contractor must be preceded by the letters "TSCL”:
Example: for a Sign Contractor license number "1234", the sign would read "TSCL 1234." -
The license number for a Residential Appliance Installation Contractor must be preceded by the letters “TICL”:
Example: For a Residential Appliance Installation Contractor license number "1234", the sign would read "TICL 1234."
